Chiropractic helps Blood Pressure

Lancaster, CA: Researchers at the Hypertension Center at the University of Chicago have shown that a specific type of chiropractic adjustment can significantly lower blood pressure. The results of this placebo controlled study were recently published in the Journal of Human Hypertension.

The study compared two groups of patients. The first group was given a special adjustment to the Atlas (the top bone of the spine). The second group was given a ‘sham’ adjustment. Patients were unable to tell which group they were in. None of the patients took any blood pressure medication during the study.

The study showed that a series of specific chiropractic adjustments to the atlas caused a decrease in both the systolic and diastolic pressures. It’s important to note that there were no side effects recorded.

“As a chiropractor I’ve known that chiropractic can help patients with blood pressure. Said Dr. Frye. We’ve actually tested blood pressure before and after an adjustment, and we’ve seen an immediate drop. This study opens an exciting opportunity for people suffering from High Blood Pressure to find a drug free treatment to lower their blood pressure. I’m looking forward to seeing further research on this subject and more importantly solid protocols that will allow us to successfully treat blood pressure patients with a very low risk”

The Antelope Valley Communities of Lancaster and Palmdale seem to have higher than normal numbers of patients with hypertension. Perhaps this is due to large number of commuters that drive down highway 14 to Los Angeles every day. Other factors contributing to the prevalence of this condition include poor diet, obesity and de-conditioning syndrome.

Interesting to see research studies regarding chiropractic and hypertension, public testimonials regarding chiropractic and multiple sclerosis, stories about eyesight improving after chiropractic adjustments, and all of these appearing on major media networks.
